Executive Director

Since 1976, Rev. Sung Chul Park and his wife, Yoonju Park, have been heavily involved with the Korean adoptive community through the Korean Institute of Minnesota and Korean culture camps. They have met over 10,000 Korean adoptees during the last twenty-five years. Through this experience, they learned that teaching adoptees about their Korean heritage was insufficient to help address the complex identity issues they face. They came to understand that only through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ could adoptees find the answers to their questions.

Pastor and Mrs. ParkRev. and Mrs. Park prayed for God to send someone to minister to Korean adoptees with the heart of Jesus, who understood Korean culture, American culture, and adoption issues. God answered their prayer by calling Mr. Park as that minister.

Rev. Park graduated from McCormick Theological Seminary with two master's degrees in 1998 to be ordained as a minister of the Word and Sacraments in 2000 by the Presbytery of the Twin Cities Area. Since then, he has worked as both minister and director of KAM in partnership with the Presbytery and the Korean Presbyterian Church of Minnesota (KPCM), but hopes that the roles can be separated, and more staff such a secretary and youth leaders can be added as KAM grows, to improve the effectiveness of the ministry.
He prays that KAM will be able to:

  1. reach out to Korean adoptees who have not yet accepted Jesus' unconditional love and help them to live Spirit-filled, holy and joyful lives;
  2. raise funds for a foundation that can provide scholarships for any adult adoptee who wants to become a minister or a youth leader; and
  3. build a Korean Education/Resource Center for Korean Adoptees, 2nd generation Korean Americans, and others who are interested in Korean culture and language so that they can access resources whenever they need them.

Please pray that God may open doors for a more ecumenical partnership for this ministry to accomplish these goals. If you are able to support KAM, please send your tax deductible contribution to the Korean Adoptees Ministry, P.O. Box 130563, Roseville, MN 55113.

Mr. Park received his bachelor's degree from Yonsei University, a top ranking institution in Korea, in Business Administration. He taught high school for over 8 years, and also partnered at a CPA firm. Then, he moved to the United States in 1974 to pursue a Master's of Business Administration from the Carlson School of Business at the University of Minnesota. After graduating, he worked at Fortune 500 companies as an internal auditor or a computer consultant, and taught finance and accounting at the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities, and at Northwestern College in Roseville, Minnesota.

From 1985 to 1995, he served as an ordained elder for his local church, the KPCM (then called the Korean Presbyterian Church of the Twin Cities) in Brooklyn Center, and as a commissioner of the Twin Cities Area Presbytery. During this period, as chair of the English speaking congregation, he helped establish an English language worship service. Currently, this worship service ministers to over 120 people on Sunday mornings, including many adoptees and their families.
